What’s Your Summer Read?

Geek Speak

Mine is “Far From Home” by Lisa Murkowski and Charles Wohlforth. It’s the story of senior US Senator Murkowski’s journey growing up in Alaska to a long-time tenure in the US Senate. I’ve just completed chapter one and will periodically check-in with you from bucolic coffee shops in the Texas Hill Country. Such is life as we recover from the devastating floods in the region.

In this first missive, I want to get the elephant out of the room: Murkowski’s yes vote on the “Big Beautiful Bill” in early July 2005. Yes - the natives are restless about that vote. For now, I’m compartmentalizing that conversation. I first wanna complete reading the damn book and reflect on that matter later when I have fuller context.

So far I like the book. The Coolie magic is in play on every page. Coolie is the childhood nickname of Charles Wohlforth whom I grew up with in Alaska during the oil go go days from the 1970s+. Sir you’ve done it again and your accolades are well earned and well deserved.

So onward I go page by page. What’s your summer read?
