Oops…My Bad! 5 Blogs We Missed Last Week

Here we go again! As I do each week, I am really enjoying bringing our readers a quick round-up of the blog coverage I didn’t manage to get to during the busy week prior.

Regarding live events, Harrybbb was out and about last week, this time in Las Vegas to attend the Kaseya Connect User Conference. In addition, Jeremiah Ilges, our new director of business development and strategic relationships, attended BlackBerry World last week in Orlando. Jeremiah was able to meet and greet with sponsors, and shot a few photos on the show floor as well.

As for this week, Harrybbb and our CEO Tom Poole will be heading over to Zenith’s CloudCheck workshop in Bellevue, WA.

We also recently announced the SMB 150 for 2012! For a complete list, visit our blog here, to see if you made the cut. Winners will also be invited to attend our gala SMB 150 live event on May 16 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. In addition to complimentary admission to the event, all winners will receive a new BlackBerry Playbook. For more information, and to register, go to: www.smb150.com.

Once again, here are a few snippets of information that we didn’t get a chance to bring you last week. Let us also know if there was something we might have missed, which is not mentioned in this entry…because as you know…we love news!

1.) Ingram Micro's 2012 Spring VTN Invitational Focuses on Collaboration: Ingram Micro Inc. last week welcomed more than 600 IT solution providers and vendor partners to the Spring 2012 North American VentureTech Network (VTN) Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo. Themed "Partner. Prosper. Repeat," this four-day event was designed to fuel the collaboration between Ingram Micro and its top partners, and drive greater growth across the entire community.

With the majority of its member organizations actively partnering with one another on an ongoing basis, VTN remains the industry's top-performing North America partner community -- bringing new and higher value IT solutions to market. Further demonstrating this success, the VTN community and four of its founding members were recently inducted into the IT Hall of Fame by CompTIA.

Additionally, IT leaders including Harris Warsaw of IBM, Alison Gleeson and Kerry McDonough of Cisco, Mike Parrottino of HP, and Chris Frey of Lenovo shared industry insights and business growth opportunities with the VTN community. Plus, reality show star Buddy Valastro, owner of Carlo's Bakery, shared how Exigent Technologies, a VTN member, helped migrate his bakery from pencil-and-paper to technology to empower and support the bakery's growth.

2.) Dot Hill Protects Data from Shock and Vibration: Dot Hill Systems Corp. announced two new patents that address the concept of “ruggedization” inside the storage system to safeguard the performance and security of data – even under extreme conditions such as earthquakes.

The company’s newest additions to its extensive patent portfolio describe technology that provides greater data reliability and protection from vibration and shock resulting from earthquakes and other environmental events. This technology is the latest developments in Dot Hill’s efforts to enable greater levels of data protection for its highly reliable AssuredSAN™ storage line, which already delivers over 99.999 percent availability.

3.) Salient Federal Solutions Simplifies Disaster Recovery with TwinStrata CloudArray:
TwinStrata said that Salient Federal Solutions has implemented the TwinStrata CloudArray storage gateway with Veeam Backup & Replication software for cloud-based backup and disaster recovery.

Salient uses Veeam Backup & Replication to backup several terabytes of data from their VMware environment to a local storage area network (SAN). In 2011, they made a decision to switch from tape backup to cloud storage for offsite backup and disaster recovery.

4.) Imation to Sell, Support Encrypted USB Devices Manageable by McAfee ePO: Imation Corp. said last week that McAfee will transition its Encrypted USB device business to Imation, a McAfee partner and the McAfee Encrypted USB devices’ OEM manufacturer and supplier. Imation will sell these USB devices and the related USB management software extension for McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (McAfee ePO), and will provide support for new Encrypted USB customers.

Imation’s comprehensive portfolio of data security solutions helps organizations deliver secure mobility for their workforces. The portfolio features encrypted USB products that are FIPS 140-2 validated, and includes high capacity, small form factor USB flash drives as well as encrypted external hard disk drives.

5.) Birch Promotes Mike Sullivan to Director of Dealer Channel Sales: Birch Communications last week promoted Mike Sullivan from Regional Sales Manager for the southeast region, to Director of Sales – Dealer Channel.

“I am grateful for the opportunity Birch has allowed me,” said Sullivan. “With this change, I hope to inspire Birch dealers to increase sales of data and phone lines 30% over quota by the end of the year, and use this momentum to spur an interest from dealers who don’t know Birch to start selling for us."
