Western Digital Releases WD XE Hard Drive Line

WD logoToday, Western Digital announced the availability of their new 3.5 inch SAS Hard Drive solution. The WD XE has been designed as a transitional hard drive for datacenters looking to migrate away from legacy devices.

Western Digital explained that this new device is a 2.5 inch hard drive housed in a 3.5 inch mount, which is designed to run cooler and fit into legacy systems.  The WD XE can run on up to 67% less power than legacy devices, while holding up to 50% more data. There are currently a few options available, based on sizes from 300 GB to 900 GB, all of which feature 6 GB/s transfer rates. In addition, the recording head features the company’s “No Touch ramp load” technology, which reduces wear and tear.
