Five Things MSPs Should Consider about AVG's Acquisition of LPI

Earlier today, it was announced that AVG Technologies has agreed to acquire the business of LPI. Below are a few thoughts on what MSPs should be thinking about going forward, now that the papers have been signed, and things will undoubtedly change in the near future.

Trustworthy?
I know both companies well, and when you introduce an acquisition into the mix, it can alter the culture of the combined companies. In fact, if you don’t mind a Pocket MBA moment, most mergers fail due to cultural (not financial) reasons. Grading trustworthiness, I’d give LPI high marks and AVG nearly the same. I do think this merger makes more since than the worst-kept-secret-in-the-SMB-channel possible merger of Symantec = LPI (obviously this acquisition did not occur). You grade Symantec for yourself as a long-term, trustworthy channel vendor, and you’ll have your overall answer about the goodness of fit between AVG and LPI.

(Pictured): Peter Sandiford, LPI's CEO, announced this morning that his company was acquired by AVG Technologies.

Guest Blog: Want to Go Cloud? What’s the Use Case?

By Lawrence Kohan, Senior Consultant, LogicsOne

The following article was originally published via Green Pages Technology Solutions’ blog, JourneytotheCloud.com.

We’re well into an exciting new era in the technology world.  The buzz-words are flying around at light speeds, and talk of “Cloud” and “software-defined-everything” is all the rage. Advances in virtualization, which allows software processes to be decoupled from underlying hardware, is giving way to amazing possibilities for moving around workloads as needed; either between racks in a datacenter, or even between datacenters!  In addition, the concept of “Cloud” is very exciting with the possibilities it offers businesses to leverage these advances by being able to move workloads offsite for greater availability, redundancy, disaster recovery.

As more SMBs and large enterprises migrate to hosted solutions, the selection of cloud-based offerings and providers will continue to skyrocket as they try to capitalize on that expanding opportunity.

RIP the “Old World,” and why Cloud will cause Inevitable Change

The need for change and acceptance of the fact that your “status quo” for business may be no, has never been truer.  I have been speaking on the effect of the cloud for the past 8 years, and the past two have provided much comment on the visible effects we had and are seeing.

Before commenting on why IT supply chains have to adapt and why now is the time to take action I would like to draw context from other sectors and the customer experience they deliver that is causing a well-publicized demise.
