Early yesterday morning, HP announced a series of new storage systems designed for SMBs. I had the chance to speak with Brad Parks, HP’s senior manager, GTM strategy and messaging, who went over the new storage devices, which have all been wrapped around a program designed for the company’s SMB IT Pro resellers.

Lenovo recently announced the addition of four new solutions to its ThinkServer Line. These additions include the 1U ThinkServer RD340 two-processor rack server, the 2U ThinkServer RD440 two-processor rack server, the ThinkServer TD340, and the ThinkServer SA120, a rack-mount, direct-attached storage enclosure. Lenovo explaine that the RD 340 and RD 440 are now generally available, while the TD340 and SA120 are expected to be available in February, 2014.
Earlier this week, Dot Hill Systems Group announced that they have entered into an OEM agreement with Teradata, an organization specializing in analytic data platforms. Under this agreement, Teradata will add the Dot Hill AssuredSAN 4000 Series midrange storage systems to certain data warehousing and data analytics appliances.

NETGEAR said that it has added new 2U devices to its ReadyNAS group of products--ReadyNAS 3220 and ReadyNAS 4220, powerful new additions to the ReadyNAS product family. The new devices are latest NAS products to run on the ReadyNAS OS, introduced in March 2013, that delivers storage with enterprise features to SMBs. Available for the first time in 2U rackmount form with 12-bay capacity, the new ReadyNAS 3220 and 4220 enable easy storage for businesses supporting up to 500 concurrent users.
In an interview earlier this week with Thomas Gallivan, Vice President of Marketing at Western Digital, I had the chance to learn more about the company’s new Sentinel RX4100 device, as well as how WD plans to function in the SMB Channel. Logicalis has identified a thorny problem facing IT pros today: CIOs, strapped with budgetary constraints, have adopted a “don’t fix it unless it’s broken” approach to storage. The problem with that approach, according to Logicalis storage experts, is that storage is the heart of IT; continuing to rely on storage solutions with a basic architecture developed two decades ago won’t give forward-thinking businesses the advanced data archival and retrieving capabilities that new business pressures are demanding of them.
Today, Rackspace Hosting announced price reductions for their Content Delivery Network and Cloud Bandwidth services, as well as new pricing tiers for their open cloud portfolio. The company went live with one of the new price levels today, and will continue to discount services throughout 2013.
