Love is in the air with February upon us and we're loving it. This is the GeekSpeak edition and I talk about Tim Carney's Hyper-V 2008 R2 Tour, Scott's MooseLogic storage and recovery solution using Hyper-V technology and System Center Essentials, a fantastic network monitoring tool, originally designed for cloud computing network analysis (read Microsoft BPOS) but I've used it to test our network for VoIP fitness.

It's Moose:Logic to me!
This Moose has legs! Just as I received Tim Carney's HyperV workshop tour announcement, Scott Gorcester from MooseLogic reached out and invited himself, in a kind way, to our Bainbridge Island office last Friday afternoon. And then there is Tim Carney's Hyper-V 2008 R2 Partner Day: Practical Knowledge for Successful Deployments! This is a multi-city tour currently underway and you can still hop on. In his own words:
This is the day of Live Builds; Instruction; Demonstration; and Tips & Tricks on Hyper-V for fellow Microsoft Partners who want to use Hyper-V within their practice. Much of the event will be focused around SBS virtualized as it presents fairly unique challenges. BPOS MOSDAL Network Monitoring Tool Can Be Used for VoIP Too!
What is MOSDAL? In the Microsoft Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS) world, this is a network analysis tool that allows you to evaluate the fitness of your internal and external network infrastructure to support cloud-based computing. If you haven’t connected the dots, the Achilles heel of cloud services is robust network connectivity. (Note to self – write a future blog on developed versus undeveloped countries and the world of hosted services). Folks – you’ll need a fantastic network infrastructure to do BPOS and other cloud services (e.g. we use NetSuite as our amazing ERP system and it’s supported by our robust fiber connection).
My “first look” at MOSDAL a BPOS-specific tool for common network analysis (ping, netstat, etc.) plus a speed test such as that provided by Speakeasy on the VoIP side. As my thoughts came together about this blog – I see this working for VoIP analysis in addition to BPOS. That’s why it’s a cool tool.
