D&H SAW CLOSE TO 20% GROWTH IN FISCAL YEAR 2010, PREDICTS PROFITABLE TRENDS FOR FY 2011
— D&H Will Work Hard for VARs, Pursuing its “High Hanging Fruit” Philosophy
to Ensure Resellers’ Success Through Market Developments such as New Form Factors, VoIP Solutions, Application Software and More —
HARRISBURG, PA, May 17, 2010 – Major North American distributor D&H Distributing would like to announce results from its fiscal year 2010, which show consistent sales growth of nearly 20% year-over-year, led by SMB solutions. D&H’s growth outpaced that of the general industry, despite an overall decline in distribution in the larger market during this timeframe. SMB sales alone showed an increase of 35% year-over-year from November 2009 to April 2010.
This year’s growth figures also represent a double-digit improvement over D&H’s figures from Q4 of last fiscal year, at which time the company experienced 6% growth Y-o-Y, even in the midst of the recession. The four fastest-growing categories of Fiscal Year 2010 were printers, desktop PCs, servers and VoIP solutions.
The distributor saw an extraordinary jump of double digit sales growth in the area of desktop PCs and its accompanying components, driven to a great degree by the launch of Microsoft’s Windows 7 OS, an event that prompted many businesses to finally implement a system-wide refresh. And the advent of Microsoft Office 2010 stands to keep the momentum of the PC refresh cycle from ebbing, with cloud-based features, more powerful presentation capabilities, and social networking-related functionality among its many enhancements.
As the channel heads toward this anticipated uptick, D&H foresees certain developments making headway in the market. Examples include the growth of application software (media applications, presentation technologies, etc.); and new form factors like tablets and slate computing, which along with netbooks have ushered in lower computing costs. Other new trends positioned for expansion include VoIP-based desktop videoconferencing systems, such as Cisco’s 7985G Unified IP Phone video conferencing equipment; and encryption-based storage technologies, such as Symantec’s Endpoint Encryption v.7.0 Removable Storage device, or IronKey’s encrypted USB drives. This is in addition to solid expectations for 2010’s ongoing hot-sellers, e.g., high-performance notebooks and cost-saving “green” technologies.
Reaffirming a Decades-Long Pledge
D&H’s new Fiscal Year (FY 2011) officially began on May 1, 2010. As the company moves into its 93rd year of operation, it would like to reiterate its ongoing commitment to a reseller base that has remained loyal over the years, some over decades.
“The key to our success has always been outstanding service throughout the organization,” said Michael Schwab, co-president at D&H Distributing. “We don’t conduct business the easy way, we do it the old-fashioned way, far beyond the bare minimum. This means zeroing-in on our resellers’ needs, providing consultative guidance as if we were part of each customer’s individual business, and delivering the training it takes to keep those resellers educated. It also involves working closely with the vendor community to seek out innovative products that let VARs take advantage of opportunities. We aim for the high hanging fruit, and our customers reap the rewards.”
While competitors may be more content to simply fulfill existing demand, D&H's "high-hanging fruit" philosophy drives the company to execute the extra effort involved in identifying customers and market solutions, delivering the appropriate training, and in turn, maximizing every sales opportunity for its resellers.
To remind its co-owner employees of those goals every day, D&H has posted signs in its entryways reading, “Passing through these doors are the D&H co-owners who are dedicated to support every customer and every vendor with the world’s best service.” It’s a mindset that bolsters the entire staff, keeping the team motivated, goal-oriented and customer-focused.
